Oliver wins gold in trad folk interpretation

Oliver's interpretation of 'Bonjour, Belle Voisine' was awarded with 1st prize at the prestigious FolkNam composition competition held in Namur, Belgium on June 21 2022. Participants came from across Belgium and France for the annual competition held in La Casserole Namur by FolkNam, an organisation that promotes folk music across Wallonia and organises folk dances, sessions and events.


Oliver played the Huy version collected by Oscar Colson in the end of the 19th century in the Meuse valley. He both played on his fiddle the tune and sang the song combining it with a similar tune la Sabotiere. Bonjour, Belle Voisine was a rondo to be danced by young girls. A similar version f the song exist in France called Bonjour, Belle Rosine.


The jury commended him on the musicality, the preparation into the arrangement and sense of theatrical performance.
